The 1960’s Go into the Community |
n Dan Chavez, approached the University of New Mexico and successfully offered college credit for ABE courses taken by ABE teachers and taught by instructors selected by Tom Trujillo: n Foundations of ABE, Curriculum Development in Reading for ABE, Guidance and Counseling in ABE, and English as a Second Language for ABE. n Phil Felix, Odila Valdez Linson and Marjorie Muth were taking first steps into the State Penitentiary by organizing college and GED programs. n Cleto Duran was bringing adult education to Moriarty, Estancia, Mountainair, Belen, Los Lunas, Isleta, Laguna, Jemez, Zia, San Felipe, Bernalillo, Algodones, Sandia, the Honor Farm in Los Lunas, the Albuquerque City Jail and senior centers. n Leading the way for future Adult Basic Education directors from the State Department of Education was New Mexico's first, Clarence (Clem) Hill. |
